“‘Palestinian Voices’ makes its goal.”
We’re in this project together now.
To our readers,
I am pleased to announce that we’ve met our fundraising goal for “Palestinian Voices.” In just six days, The Floutist’s readers and supporters stepped forward in a generous show of support for this project. I will do my very best to live up to the donation of every dollar that came my way.
Clearly, there are many of us who want to hear from the people of Palestine. To all our donors: This is our endeavor now.
It is remarkable that, even as Gaza is largely destroyed and the West Bank appears to be catching fire, we know nothing about what Palestinians are thinking and saying. Western powers are now talking about how post-conflict Gaza will be governed, but Palestinians have no place in these discussions.
How do Palestinians understand this moment? How do they see an end to this conflict? How do they envision a way forward, toward a viable and sustainable peace, especially given the genocide still occurring in Gaza? No one consults them about any of this. No one considers what they need and want. Silenced, invisible: It is as if they do not exist.
Indeed, we don’t really know who the Palestinian people are, so thoroughly has the U.S. empire obscured them as it maintains its support for Israel’s project of ethnic cleansing and its apartheid regime.
These realities are what drive me and will be on my mind every minute of my journey. These questions are the reason I am going.
In the coming months, The Floutist will be publishing a diversity of “Palestinian Voices” in answer to these and other questions. My gratitude for your vote in favor of this project will be evident in every line.
Thank you!
C. M.
